Rapira-PV
Intended use
Measuring volumetric flow and volume of fluids in reservoir pressure maintenance systems (RPMS).
The device is manufactured in 36 designs different in their nominal diameter, explosion safety, output signal types, and in that they are supplied with or without flanges. In order to select and order a required design of the Rapira-PV flow meter, please fill out the Questionnaire.
Fluid:
Any non-aggressive toward steel grade 12Х18Н10Т.
- Max. fluid pressure*.............................. 20 MPa;
- Concentration of solid particles, max....... 20 g/L;
- Salt load, max...................................... 20 g/L;
- Fluid temperature range...................... 0…+80°С.
*- for custom-made devices max. fluid pressure above is selected from values specified in GOST 356-80 (up to 40 MPa).
Flow meter components:
A fireproof flow meter comprises a primary transducer unit (PTU) measuring volumetric flow, and a flow recording unit (FRU) for intrinsically safe PTU power supply and measurement result storage (a common-design flow meters consists of a PTU only).
The main PTU component is a measure chamber (MC) featuring a cylinder of a specific diameter. Two electroacoustic transducers (EAT) are installed in the centerline plane at an angle to the centerline and connected to the electronic unit (EU) for control of the same or output of measurement result data to external devices. Also, a PTU is equipped with a temperature transmitter (TT).
A FRU is manufactured as a stand-alone unit. A PTU and FRU are connected with a 4-wire communication line up to 250m in length.
Operating principle:
The flow meter implements a time-pulse method of volumetric flow measurement. During operation a fluid flow is alternately sound by acoustic signals. The PTU electronic unit measures the transit time and difference of acoustic pulses propagating in and against flow direction. A fluid flow rate is determined based on the above times. Such flow rate is converted to a volumetric flow. Incorporation of a controlled fluid temperature results in improved volumetric flow measurement accuracy.
The EAT and volumetric flow meter design is patented in RU and other countries.

Rapira-PV flow meter special features:
- Larger flow dynamic range (1:150).
- Full-bore measuring chamber, no moving parts and pressure loss.
- Improved resistance to suspended particles and gaseous impurities.
- Calculation of flow is performed taking into account ambient temperature (equipped with a temperature transmitter).
- Original piezotransformer design ensures its reliability under controlled fluid high-pressure conditions.
- Low dispersion and dynamic error of a measured flow (due to a large number of processed sounding signals per unit of time).
- Application of explosion protection such as an intrinsically safe circuit (not an enclosure like with similar devices).
- High noise resistance due to application of low impedance differential circuits, and electrical unit galvanic isolation from the pipeline.
- Buildup on the measuring chamber walls has little or no effect pm measurement precision.
- Overall and connection dimensions of the RAPIRA-PV flow meter ensure full replaceability by other flowmeters (DN50 and DN100) applied in RPM systems nowadays.
- Flow meter readings may be stored in the archive for 2 months (64 days) with hourly recording.
- The calibration interval is 4 years.
